Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Guelph Hurricanes in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.Cambridge overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Winter Hawks was down 3-1 after a goal by Guelph's Lawrence Pagnan at 6:58 in the third period. Cambridge tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jordan Chard at 17:23 in the third period. The Winter Hawks got the win thanks to a great game by Mitch Atkins, who had one goal and two assists. Atkins scored 15:05 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Phil Caputo picked up the assist. Cambridge's offense rang up 40 shots on the Hurricanes' net. Cambridge additionally got points from Maxime Lamontagne, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Alex Bottigoni, who had two. Guelph forced the Winter Hawks goalie Lucas Machalski to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Hurricanes totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-1 on the power play. For Guelph, Stefano Pezzetta and Sayle were ejected from the contest.
