Fort Erie shrugs off penalties, upends Pelham, 5-2JL Grightmire Arena Fri, Jan 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pelham Panthers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Fort Erie Meteors shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Fort Erie was paced by Wade Kenny, who registered one goal and one assist. Kenny scored on the power play 9:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. The Meteors had taken the advantage when Pelham's Anthony Sorrentino got sent off for hooking. Richard DeMarco picked up the assist. In a losing effort, the Panthers were led by Sorrentino, who finished with two goals. Sorrentino scored the first of his two goals at 8:33 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Fort Erie. Riley Quesnelle assisted on the tally. Sorrentino's next tally made the score 4-3 Fort Erie with 2:56 left in the third period. Fort Erie excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Meteors forced Pelham goalie Tynan Lauziere to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Fort Erie surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Meteors average 2.5 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Fort Erie additionally got points from Dakota Miskolczi, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Josh Micallef, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Fort Erie also had goals scored by Anthony Passero and Dan Defranco, who scored one goal each. More assists for Fort Erie came via Mackenzie Passero and Dalton Tartaglia, who each chipped in one. The Panthers' offense rang up 31 shots on Fort Erie's net. Pelham also got a goal from Brady Cranwell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pelham were Dane Koabel, Connor Schmalz, and Riley O Connell, who contributed one each. The Meteors' Mackenzie Savard stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Fort Erie incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tynan Lauziere made 43 saves for Pelham on 47 shots. The Panthers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
