LaSalle hangs on, beats Sarnia 5-3

The LaSalle Vipers took the lead against the Sarnia Legionnaires in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 5-3 victory.

LaSalle took over the lead for good with a goal by Nathan Savage at 17:55 in the first period. The Vipers had gotten the advantage when Sarnia's Jay Clarke was sent off for roughing. Brett Primeau picked up the assist.

LaSalle's penalty kill excelled, as the Vipers gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

LaSalle was paced by Connor Rosaasen, who registered one goal. Rosaasen scored on the power play 16:39 into the third period to make the score 4-2 LaSalle. The Vipers had gained a power play chance when PJ Vandervaart was whistled for abuse of officials. Brett Langlois provided the assist.

LaSalle stifled the Legionnaires' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. The Vipers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

LaSalle also got points from Nicolas Crescenzi, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. LaSalle also had goals scored by Nikko Sablone and Dalton Langlois, who scored one goal each. More assists for LaSalle came via Korey Morgan, Dylan Naumovski, Daniel Beaudoin, and Manny Silverio, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia forced LaSalle goalie Eli Billing to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Legionnaires' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Sarnia finished with 42 penalty minutes.

The Legionnaires were helped by Jordan Fogarty, who finished with one goal and one assist. Fogarty scored 7:30 into the third period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. Ryan Vendramin picked up the assist. Sarnia additionally got points from Vendramin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Connor Andersen also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Cody Trowell, who had one and Riley Babkirk, who had two.

Billing rejected 38 shots on goal for the Vipers. LaSalle registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Andrew Masters recorded 25 saves for Sarnia.
