LaSalle outlasts Leamington, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the LaSalle Vipers escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Leamington Flyers.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tyler Russell at 2:48 of the second period.

Korey Morgan had two goals to lead LaSalle to victory. Morgan found the back of the net short handed 6:10 into the second period to make the score 4-2 LaSalle and again while 1:11 into the third to make the score 5-3 LaSalle.

Leamington's power play was ineffective against the Vipers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

LaSalle's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Vipers had been spending in the box. LaSalle excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Flyers were unable to stop the Vipers from sending pucks towards the net, and LaSalle eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

LaSalle additionally got points from Daniel Beaudoin, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brendan Harrogate, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Nathan Savage, who had two and Brett Langlois and Manny Silverio, who each chipped in one.

Leamington was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Leamington stifled the Vipers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Leamington was led by Alex Friesen, who racked up one goal and one assist. Friesen scored 16:02 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Leamington. Kyle Perkowski picked up the assist. Others who scored for Leamington included J.P. Grineau and Ryan Muzzin, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Matthew Opblinger, who had two and Blaine Bechard and Travis Campbell, who contributed one each.

Paolo Battisti rejected 27 shots on goal for LaSalle. The Vipers registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Nicolas Crescenzi, Nick Gauvin, and Savage were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Michael Barrett made 30 saves for the Flyers on 35 shots. For Leamington, Bechard, Mitchell Amante, and Zak Parlette were ejected from the contest.
