Guelph outlasts Elmira, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Guelph Hurricanes escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Patrick Kudla's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Peyton Backus was all over the ice for Guelph, as he tallied two goals in the win. Backus' tallies came at 12:51 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Guelph and 19:28 into the third to make the score 4-2 Guelph.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Elmira power plays. Elmira was unable to stop Guelph from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hurricanes eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

More assists for Guelph came via Jake Wyse, Sebastian Stangherlin, Alex Remedios, Tristan Liggett, Lawrence Pagnan, Jordan Hatzinger, and Jason DaSilva, who contributed one each.

The Sugar Kings stifled Guelph's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Elmira did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Sugar Kings put an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. Elmira's offense rang up 39 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Zac Coulter, who had one goal. Coulter scored 16:46 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Guelph. Alex Mutton assisted on the tally. Klayton Hoelscher also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Mitch Montgomery, Marselis Subban, and Mac Clutsam, who each chipped in one.

Jason DaSilva made 37 saves for Guelph on 39 shots. The Hurricanes incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Elmira's Jonathan Reinhart stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Sugar Kings incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Elmira, Mitch Wright was ejected from the game.
