Sarnia holds on for 2-1 win against Strathroy

The Strathroy Rockets tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Sarnia Legionnaires held on for a 2-1 victory.

Sarnia made the score 2-0 on a goal by Ryan Trottier at 18:36 in the second period, and Strathroy got as close as 2-1 when Nick Boyer scored 13:38 into the third period.

The Legionnaires' Hunter Johnson was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 40 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Johnson will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.7.

Sarnia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Legionnaires were held below their usual level of production. Sarnia puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

Sarnia also got points from Davis Boyer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Sarnia came via Cody Trowell, who had two.

The Rockets managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Strathroy finished below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Rockets' offense operated below their season average. Strathroy averages 3.9 goals per game. The Rockets' offense rang up 41 shots on the Legionnaires' net.

In addition, Strathroy received assists from Matt Laberge and Stuart King, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For the Legionnaires, Sam McCormack was ejected from the game. Mat Ouellet made 26 saves for Strathroy on 28 shots. The Rockets registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
