Ancaster survives St. Catharines comeback, wins 3-2

The St. Catharines Falcons tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Ancaster Avalanche would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Ancaster took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have St. Catharines storm back on a Brock Ackerman goal 16:53 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Avalanche were sparked by Ryan Cox, who had one goal. Cox scored 10:35 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ancaster. Alex Zaccaria assisted on the tally.

Ancaster also got points from Chris Klack, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Blake Luscombe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Ancaster came via Lucas Triemstra, Luke Zupan, and Cole Nagy, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. St. Catharines wound up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Falcons did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. St. Catharines puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Ancaster was unable to stop the Falcons from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Catharines eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

The Falcons were helped by Connor Timmins, who registered one goal. Timmins scored on the power play 6:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. St. Catharines earned a power play opportunity when Cox was put in the box for handling the puck. Jake Evans picked up the assist. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Tyler Morrison and Cam Blakely, who contributed one each.

Blake Richard rejected 44 shots on goal for the Avalanche. Ancaster incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Falcons' Jonathan D Ilario stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. St. Catharines registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
