Niagara Falls vanquishes Fort Erie in shootout, 7-6 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Niagara Falls Canucks defeated the Fort Erie Meteors in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.

Niagara Falls was paced on offense by Colton Anstey and Austin Wright, who combined for six points. Anstey grabbed two goals and one assist and Wright also notched two goals and one assist.

The Canucks forced Fort Erie goalie Mackenzie Savard to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Niagara Falls surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Canucks have scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Niagara Falls struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Niagara Falls also got points from Wright, who also had two goals and one assist. Niagara Falls also had goals scored by Matthew Mannella and Jeffrey Venzon, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Ryall Ledyard, who had two and Frank Pucci, Kevin Millejours, Nigel Slade, Matthew Baldinelli, and Dayne Johnson, who each chipped in one.

The Meteors' offense rang up 37 shots on the Canucks' net. Fort Erie's goal total was higher than its season average. The Meteors average 2.4 goals per game.

Fort Erie was helped by Jared Marino, who registered two goals. Marino scored the first of his two goals at 14:12 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Declan Conway provided the assist. Marino's next tally made the score 5-5 with 3:33 left in the third period. The Meteors had gained a power play chance when Matthew Marsden was whistled for roughing after whistle. Riley Mocha picked up the assist. Fort Erie additionally got points from Richard DeMarco, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Holden Garlent, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dalton Tartaglia also scored for Fort Erie. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Dakota Miskolczi, Romaeo D Intino, and Wade Kenny, who contributed one each.

Dylan Pietrangelo rejected 31 shots on goal for Niagara Falls. The Canucks registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Mackenzie Savard made 38 saves for Fort Erie on 44 shots. The Meteors ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Fort Erie, Bryce Martin was ejected from the game.
