Ancaster's comeback falls short, St. Catharines wins 5-3Jack Gatecliff Rink Fri, Jan 02, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Catharines Falcons came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Ancaster Avalanche, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory. St. Catharines led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Falcons' Paolo De Sousa scored at 12:39 in the third period to put St. Catharines up 4-1. The Falcons kept Ancaster's goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Richard made 28 saves on 33 shots. Others who scored for St. Catharines included Josh Miller, Tyler Jackson, and Jake Evans, who each put in one. More assists for St. Catharines came via Ryan Doucette, Brandon Cercone, and Tyler Hildebrant, who contributed one each and Tyler Morrison, Cam Blakely, and Devon Rymarchuk, who each chipped in two. The Avalanche's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Ancaster was helped by Max Balinson, who tallied two goals. Balinson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 St. Catharines. A tripping penalty on Jackson had put the Avalanche on the power play. Blake Luscombe assisted on the tally. Balinson's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 St. Catharines with 5:07 left in the third period. Ancaster had gotten the advantage when St. Catharines' Miller was sent off for high sticking. Luscombe picked up the assist. Ancaster also got a goal from Chris Klack as well. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Aaron St. Pierre, who had one and Luke Zupan, who had two. The Falcons' Jonathan D Ilario stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. St. Catharines incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Avalanche incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
