Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Brampton Bombers in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.Cambridge stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Winter Hawks were helped by Alex Bottigoni, who grabbed one goal. Bottigoni scored 13 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Kalob Witzell picked up the assist. Jordan Chard also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Mitch Atkins and Phil Caputo, who each chipped in one. The Bombers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cambridge to score on any of its five power plays. Brampton was helped by Jordan Crocker, who grabbed one goal. Crocker scored 12:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Noah Robinson provided the assist. Brampton also got a goal from Austin Kozluk as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Carmine Vietri and Brad Bollert, who contributed one each. Lucas Machalski made 22 saves for the Winter Hawks on 24 shots. Cambridge incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Bombers' Jake Lawr stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Brampton incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Bombers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kozluk was ejected from the game.
