Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Chatham Maroons defeated the St. Thomas Stars in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. St. Thomas got a shootout goal from Andrew Chambers. In addition to the clincher, Chatham got a shootout goal from Alexander Morgan.The Maroons saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Chatham made the score 3-1 on a goal by Brennan Feasey at 3:09 in the third period. The Stars evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Feasey at 16:49 in the third period. The Maroons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five St. Thomas power plays. Chatham forced St. Thomas goalie Dan Black to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Chatham additionally got points from Trevor Richardson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Chatham came via Michael Verboom, who had three and Nate Pietens, Levi Tetrault, Brayden Hopkins, and Steven Beenackers, who contributed one each. The Stars kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Patterson made 27 saves on 31 shots. St. Thomas was helped by Chambers, who racked up one goal. Chambers scored 11:56 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Jay Dekker provided the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Jesse Anderson, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Thomas included Josh Slegers and Brett Van Dusen, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Spencer Hutchinson, who had one and Blair Mincer and Jordan Babb, who contributed two each. Chatham incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tetrault was ejected from the game. Black recorded 38 saves for the Stars. St. Thomas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
