Welland rolls over Pelham, 11-1Welland Arena Sun, Dec 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Welland Jr. Canadians had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-1 win over the Pelham Panthers. Welland got the win behind a great game by Kris Melna, who had two goals and one assist. Melna scored the first of his two goals short handed at 13:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Welland. A cross checking call on Josh Allan put the Jr. Canadians on the penalty kill. JC Thivierge provided the assist. Melna's next tally short handed made the score 10-1 Welland with 11:08 left in the third period. Max Cipriano picked up the assist. Welland managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Canadians finished below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Welland kept Pelham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tynan Lauziere made 41 saves on 52 shots. The Jr. Canadians' goal total was higher than their season average. Welland averages 3.5 goals per game. Welland also got points from Cipriano, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Allan, who also registered one goal and one assist.
