Chatham uses shootout to best Strathroy, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Chatham Maroons defeated the Strathroy Rockets in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Strathroy's shootout goal was scored by Jack Kilgour. Chatham's other shootout goal was scored by Brennan Feasey.

The Maroons overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Chatham fell behind 2-1 after a power play goal by the Rockets' Mark MacAulay at 8:57 in the third period. The Maroons tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Michael Verboom at 14:24 in the third period.

Chatham was led by Alexander Morgan, who had one goal and one assist. Morgan scored on the power play 13:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Maroons earned a power play opportunity when Lucas Latina was put in the box for tripping. Steven Szekesy picked up the assist. In addition, Chatham received assists from Feasey, who had one.

Chatham was unable to stop Strathroy from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rockets eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Strathroy struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Strathroy also got a goal from Sam Vokes as well. More assists for Strathroy came via Kilgour, Nick Griffin, Eddie Schulz, and Dan Chapman, who each chipped in one.

Jake Patterson made 38 saves for the Maroons on 40 shots. Chatham ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Team's Trevor Richardson and John Bowen were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mat Ouellet rejected 27 shots on goal for the Rockets. Strathroy registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
