Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Welland Jr. Canadians defeated the Fort Erie Meteors in a shootout 1-0 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Fort Erie's shootout goal was scored by Jared Marino. In addition to the clincher, Welland got a shootout goal from Brayden Stortz.The Jr. Canadians' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Fort Erie power plays. Welland could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Jr. Canadians put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Welland's defense was surprisingly good. The Jr. Canadians average 2.2 goals allowed per game. The Meteors stifled Welland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Fort Erie's offense operated below its season average. The Meteors average 2.4 goals per game. Chris Janzen recorded 20 saves for the Jr. Canadians. Welland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Liam Conway made 29 saves for Fort Erie on 29 shots. The Meteors incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
