Guelph downs Cambridge, 7-4

Peyton Backus registered one point to lead the Guelph Hurricanes to a 7-4 victory over the Cambridge Winter Hawks.

In the losing effort, Cambridge was sparked by Jordan Chard, who tallied two goals and one assist. Chard scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:56 into the second period to make the score 6-3 Guelph. The Winter Hawks had gained a power play chance when Brooker Muir was whistled for slashing. Chard's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Guelph with 11:44 left in the third period.

Guelph forced Cambridge's netminders to work between the pipes, launching 35 shots and forcing 28 saves. Lucas Machalski made 14 stops and Owen Savory made 14. The Hurricanes bested their season scoring average. Guelph averages 3.3 goals per game.

Guelph also got points from Muir, who also had one goal and one assist and Michael Courvoisier, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Guelph also had goals scored by Chad Herron, who had two and Lawrence Pagnan and Patrick Kudla, who scored one goal each. More assists for Guelph came via Dylan Sayle, who had two, Jake Wyse, Alex Remedios, Tristan Liggett, and Cameron Stokes, who each chipped in one, and Craig Martini and Ryan Migliaccio, who contributed three each.

Others who scored for Cambridge included Alex Hulford and Alex Bottigoni, who each put in one. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Zack Magwood, Kyle Liu, and Devin Shell, who each chipped in one.

Jason DaSilva rejected 19 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Guelph totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For the Hurricanes, Wyse and Backus were ejected from the contest. The Winter Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
