Pleon's big game bests Brantford in 8-4 Stratford win

The Stratford Cullitons' Jake Pleon had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 8-4 win over the Brantford 99ers.

Pleon scored on the power play 8:17 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Stratford. A delay of game penalty on Nathan Ferris had put Stratford on the power play. Deven Kropf assisted on the tally. Pleon dished an assist on Hayden Broomhead's goal that made the score 2-1 Stratford at 18:01 into the first period. He then added assists on Shane O Brien's goal at 10:59 into the third and on Broomhead's goal at 13:07 into the third.

Brantford was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Cullitons were able to score four times while on the power play.

Stratford forced the 99ers goalie Jack Moylan to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. The Cullitons' goal total was higher than their season average. Stratford has scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Stratford also got points from Kropf, who also finished with one goal and one assist, O Brien, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Mitch Brooks, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Broomhead, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Stratford included Tyson Baker and Mitch Vandergunst, who each put in one. In addition, Stratford received assists from Austin Huizenga, Carter Allen, and Jeff McArdle, who each chipped in one and Patrick McKelvie and Brook Hiddink, who contributed two each.

The Cullitons' defense shut down Brantford's forwards for much of the game, and the 99ers got off only 14 shots during the contest. Brantford's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The 99ers were helped by Zander Pryor, who registered one goal. Pryor scored on the power play 8:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brantford had gotten the advantage when Stratford's Ty Bilcke was sent off for hooking. Brett Parsons picked up the assist. Brantford additionally got points from David Storey, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ryon Pereira also scored for Brantford. More assists for Brantford came via Christian Polillo, who had two and Cole Cummings, Lucas Zitmanis, and Keegan Alvestad, who each chipped in one.

Nick Redman made eight saves before being replaced by Nicholas Caldwell, who took the win and made two saves. The Cullitons incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The 99ers' Moylan stopped 41 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Brantford incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
