GAME RECAP

St. Thomas uses shootout to best London, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Joe Thornton RC    Fri, Dec 19, 2014

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the London Nationals in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. London got shootout goals from Tanner Ferreira and Derek Todosichuk. St. Thomas' other shootout goals were scored by Jordan Babb and Andrew Chambers.

The Stars' Nikolas Dampier was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 38 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Dampier will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.15.

St. Thomas was led by Dane Johnstone, who tallied one goal. Johnstone scored 48 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Carson Brookshaw assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Matt Simsons, who had one.

The Nationals did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. London averages 3.3 goals per game. The Nationals forced the Stars goalie Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

London was led by Todosichuk, who scored the team's only goal. Todosichuk scored 4:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Drew Worrad picked up the assist.

St. Thomas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Connor Hughes made 26 saves for the Nationals on 27 shots. London incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Nationals, Trevor Dulong was ejected from the game.
