Sarnia downs St. Thomas in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Sarnia Arena Thu, Dec 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Sarnia Legionnaires pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the St. Thomas Stars on a clutch goal by Davis Boyer. Sarnia's penalty kill excelled, as the Legionnaires gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Sarnia was led by Boyer, who finished with one goal and one assist. Boyer scored 1:27 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Sarnia. The Legionnaires forced St. Thomas goalie Dan Black to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Sarnia's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Legionnaires finished with 24 penalty minutes. Sarnia additionally got points from Cody Trowell, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Sarnia also got a goal from PJ Vandervaart as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Jay Clarke, who had one. The Stars stifled Sarnia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Thomas kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cornel Felder made 30 saves on 32 shots. The Stars were helped by Jordan Babb, who registered one goal. Babb scored on the power play 11:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. St. Thomas had taken the advantage when Sarnia's Ryan Trottier got sent off for goalie interference. Black provided the assist. Jesse Anderson also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Dane Johnstone, Jay Dekker, and Zach Grzelewski, who each chipped in one. The Legionnaires registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Dan Black made 31 saves for the Stars on 34 shots. St. Thomas incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
