Coulter nets hat trick, leads Elmira to 5-1 win over Guelph

Zac Coulter netted a hat trick to lead the Elmira Sugar Kings over the Guelph Hurricanes, 5-1.

Coulter got on the scoresheet 1:50 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:45 into the second and at 16:51 into the third.

Elmira's Jonathan Reinhart was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Reinhart certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.54 entering the contest.

The Sugar Kings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Elmira kept Guelph's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeremie Lintner made 31 saves on 36 shots.

Others who scored for Elmira included Sam Harris and Ethan Skinner, who scored one goal each. More assists for Elmira came via Adam Brubacher, Mac Clutsam, Troy Taylor, and Brendan Schneider, who each chipped in one and Eric Palazzolo and Mitch Wright, who contributed two each.

The Hurricanes did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Guelph puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Hurricanes could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Guelph was led by Matt Nightingale, who scored the team's only goal. Nightingale scored on the power play 11:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chad Herron provided the assist.

Elmira registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Hurricanes registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Guelph ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan Hatzinger was ejected from the game.
