Tanev nets hat trick, leads Caledonia to 5-3 win over Fort Erie

Kyle Tanev netted a hat trick to lead the Caledonia Corvairs over the Fort Erie Meteors, 5-3.

Tanev notched his first tally 5:54 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:19 into the third and at 19:25 into the third.

Fort Erie's power play was ineffective against Caledonia's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:09 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Corvairs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game Caledonia had been spending in the box. The Meteors were unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Caledonia additionally got points from Luke Sinclair, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Connor Patton also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Mitch Purdie, who had two and Riley Vanhorne, Ryan Moran, Jordan Peacock, Jayme Forslund, Jake Brown, Anton Trublin, and Austin McEneny, who each chipped in one.

Fort Erie put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Corvairs to score on any of their seven power plays.

The Meteors were helped by Wade Kenny, who registered one goal and one assist. Kenny scored 8:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Declan Conway picked up the assist. Fort Erie also got points from Holden Garlent, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Fort Erie also got a goal from Dakota Miskolczi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Riley Mocha, who had one.

Marc Sinclair made 12 saves for Caledonia on 15 shots. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Pugliese was ejected from the game. Fort Erie's Mackenzie Savard stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Meteors ended with 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and two majors. Team's Tristan Drescher and Joe Costello were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
