Cambridge blows out Brampton, 5-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Brampton Bombers, and when the final buzzer sounded Winter Hawks emerged with a 5-2 win.

Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Winter Hawks forced Brampton goalie Shane Dietl to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Cambridge was led by Maxime Lamontagne, who finished with one goal and one assist. Lamontagne scored 18:52 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cambridge. Zack Hedley picked up the assist. Cambridge also got points from Hedley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cambridge also had goals scored by Stephen Jablonski, Mitch Atkins, and Alex Hulford, who each put in one. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Josh Grant, who had two and Zack Magwood, Jake Moggy, Devin Shell, Riley MacRae, Alex Bottigoni, and Drew Stirling, who each chipped in one.

The Bombers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Brampton was helped by Mitchell Byrne, who tallied one goal. Byrne scored short handed 15:16 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cambridge. The Bombers were on a disadvantage when Matthew Magliozzi went off the ice for interference. Brampton also got a goal from Lucas Goodman as well. More assists for Brampton came via Cameron Cruickshank and Kevin Bray, who contributed one each.

Lucas Machalski recorded 22 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-9 on the power play. For the Winter Hawks, Grant was ejected from the game. Brampton's Dietl stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
