Strathroy downs St. Marys in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Pyramid Recreation Centre Fri, Dec 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Strathroy Rockets' Nick Griffin scored 38 seconds into overtime to beat the St. Marys Lincolns, 3-2 (OT). Brett Dalton was all over the ice for Strathroy, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Dalton scored at 12:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy and again while 19:34 into the first to make the score 2-0 Strathroy. St. Marys' power play was ineffective against the Rockets' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Strathroy's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Rockets surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Strathroy forced the Lincolns goalie Andrew Masters to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Strathroy also got points from Griffin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Strathroy came via Stuart King, who had three and Matt Laberge and Andrew Martin, who contributed one each. St. Marys forced Rockets' goalies to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots and forcing 32 saves. Dane Gubbels made 31 stops and Mat Ouellet made one. The Lincolns' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Strathroy power plays. St. Marys was helped by Matt McGall, who registered one goal. McGall scored on the power play 11:15 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Lincolns had gained a power play chance when Martin was whistled for slashing. Greg Swan picked up the assist. Ocean Check also scored for St. Marys. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Brent House, Colin Nancekivell, and Graham Brulotte, who each chipped in one. For the Rockets, Dalton Good, Sam Vokes, and Matt Knight-Bedour were ejected from the contest. Masters recorded 41 saves for St. Marys. The Lincolns ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For St. Marys, Jack Wieringa was ejected from the game.
