Johnstone's hat trick boosts St. Thomas over Lambton Shores, 7-5

Dane Johnstone netted a hat trick to lead the St. Thomas Stars over the Lambton Shores Predators, 7-5.

Johnstone notched his first tally 12:20 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:10 into the second and at 13:51 into the second.

St. Thomas led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Stars' Blair Mincer scored at 1:43 in the third period to put St. Thomas up 6-3.

The Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, St. Thomas averages 3.4 goals per contest.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Josh Slegers, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Carson Moniz, who also had one goal and two assists. St. Thomas also got a goal from Brett Van Dusen as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Jay Dekker, Reed Horvat, Matt Simsons, and Jordan Babb, who each chipped in one and Matt McJannet and Carson Brookshaw, who contributed three each.

Lambton Shores forced the Stars goalie Nikolas Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Predators were helped by Sean Ross, who registered two goals. Ross scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:01 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lambton Shores. Lambton Shores earned a power play opportunity when Anders Adzija was put in the box for too many men. Andrew Kim picked up the assist. Ross' next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 St. Thomas with 4:07 left in the third period. Kim provided the assist. Brenden Trottier also scored for Lambton Shores. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Franco Sproviero, who had three and Calvin Hughson, Ethan Sarfati, and Ryan Fraser, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas' Dampier stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Predators' starting goalie, Anthony Hurtubise, made 18 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Andrew Harriman-Duke, who stopped four shots. Lambton Shores totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Predators, Fraser was ejected from the game.
