Brantford vanquishes Cambridge in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brantford 99ers defeated the Cambridge Winter Hawks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Cambridge's shootout goal was scored by Mitch Atkins. Brantford's other shootout goal was scored by Guy Polillo.

Polillo was all over the ice for the 99ers, as he tallied two goals in the win. Polillo scored at 19:17 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Brantford and again while on the power play 10:00 into the second to make the score 3-1 Brantford.

Brantford's offense rang up 37 shots on the Winter Hawks' net. The 99ers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Brantford also got points from Matthew Woods, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Gus Ford, who had two and Cole Cummings, Brett Parsons, and Zander Pryor, who contributed one each.

Cambridge kept Brantford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 34 saves on 37 shots.

The Winter Hawks were led by Jake Moggy, who finished with one goal and two assists. Moggy scored on the power play 12:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cambridge earned a power play opportunity when Keegan Alvestad was put in the box for high sticking. Aaron Nunes provided the assist. Cambridge additionally got points from Nunes, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Zack Magwood as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Kyle Liu, who had one and Jordan Chard, who had two.

The 99ers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Owen Savory made 33 saves for the Winter Hawks on 36 shots. Cambridge incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
