Sarnia holds on for 3-2 win against St. Marys

The Sarnia Legionnaires survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Marys Lincolns on the way to a 3-2 win.

Sarnia made the score 3-1 on a goal by Riley Babkirk at 15:41 in the third period, and St. Marys got as close as 3-2 when Jake Alkins scored 19:39 into the third period.

Davis Boyer was all over the ice for the Legionnaires, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Boyer scored 18:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. Babkirk provided the assist.

Sarnia was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Legionnaires had been spending in the box. The Lincolns were unable to stop Sarnia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Legionnaires eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Sarnia additionally got points from Cody Trowell, who also registered one goal and one assist and Babkirk, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Tyler Longo and Kyler Keating, who contributed one each.

St. Marys racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Lincolns surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Marys forced Sarnia goalie Cornel Felder to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Lincolns were helped by Sean O`Brien, who grabbed one goal. O`Brien scored 18:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jared Lindsay picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Colin Nancekivell, who had one.

Cornel Felder made 29 saves for the Legionnaires on 31 shots. Sarnia registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bobby King was ejected from the game. St. Marys' Andrew Masters stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Lincolns registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For St. Marys, Graham Brulotte and Jordan Winter were ejected from the contest.
