Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the Leamington Flyers in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.Leamington was stymied by St. Thomas' netminder Nikolas Dampier, who stopped 35 shots during the victory. The solid play of Dampier will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.07. The Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their five power plays. St. Thomas was led by Matt McJannet, who grabbed one goal. McJannet scored 5:32 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. Andrew Chambers picked up the assist. More assists for St. Thomas came via Carson Brookshaw, who had one. Leamington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six St. Thomas power plays. The Flyers were held below their usual level of production. Leamington averages 4.1 goals per game. The Flyers' offense rang up 36 shots on the Stars' net. St. Thomas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Barrett made 21 saves for Leamington on 22 shots. The Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
