Caledonia survives penalties, beats Welland, 2-1Welland Arena Sun, Dec 07, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Welland Jr. Canadians failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Caledonia Corvairs shook off a number of penalties to win, 2-1. Caledonia was sparked by Matthew Hore, who registered one goal. Hore scored 16:22 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Luke Sinclair assisted on the tally. The Corvairs' offense operated below their season average. Caledonia puts an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game. The Corvairs kept Welland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Janzen made 31 saves on 33 shots. Caledonia also got a goal from Jordan Peacock as well. More assists for Caledonia came via Justin Abraham, Nathan Gomes, and Jake Brown, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Welland did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jr. Canadians average 3.5 goals per game. Welland was led by Jack Fitzgerald, who scored the team's only goal. Fitzgerald scored on the power play 9:28 into the third period to make the score 1-1. The Jr. Canadians had gained a power play chance when Austin McEneny was whistled for slashing. JC Thivierge picked up the assist. Marc Sinclair recorded 17 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Welland totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For the Jr. Canadians, Josh Allan was ejected from the game.
