Mroczkowski's hat trick boosts Waterloo over Elmira, 8-4

Christian Mroczkowski netted a hat trick to lead the Waterloo Siskins over the Elmira Sugar Kings, 8-4.

Mroczkowski got on the scoresheet 20:00 into the second period. He then added goals at 7:12 into the third and at 18:22 into the third.

Waterloo's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Siskins had been spending in the box. Waterloo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Siskins have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Waterloo took advantage of Elmira's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities.

Waterloo also got points from Michael Romund, who also had one goal and one assist and Gary Mantz, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Waterloo included Nick Hirst, Connor Bodnar, and Chase Campbell, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Danny Hanlon, who had two and Matt Martin, Evan Kearns, Luke Gazzola, Kyle Betts, Anthony Guido, Matt Romund, and Josh De Farias, who each chipped in one.

The Sugar Kings forced the Siskins goalie Evgeny Kiselev to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Elmira was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time.

The Sugar Kings were led by Alex Mutton, who finished with two goals. Mutton scored the first of his two goals at 6:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Zac Coulter picked up the assist. Mutton's next tally made the score 3-1 Elmira with 12:33 left in the second period. Elmira earned a power play opportunity when De Farias was put in the box for tripping. Adam Brubacher assisted on the tally. Elmira also had goals scored by Cash Seraphim and Mitch Wright, who each put in one. In addition, Elmira received assists from Ethan Skinner, Eric Palazzolo, Mac Clutsam, and Jonathan Reinhart, who contributed one each.

Waterloo's Kiselev stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. For the Siskins, Kearns was ejected from the game. Jonathan Reinhart took the loss and made 19 saves before being replaced by Andrew Lefebvre who made two saves. The Sugar Kings registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Elmira ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sam Harris was ejected from the game.
