Waterloo's comeback falls short, Kitchener wins 6-4

The Kitchener Dutchmen came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Waterloo Siskins, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Kitchener led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Dutchmen's Harrison Domagala scored on the power play at 12:35 in the first period to put Kitchener up 3-0.

The Dutchmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Waterloo power plays. Kitchener kept Waterloo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Evgeny Kiselev made 38 saves on 44 shots. The Dutchmen's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Kitchener was led by Keegan Calder, who registered two goals. Calder scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. The Dutchmen earned a power play opportunity when Matt Martin was put in the box for slashing. Kyle Ellis picked up the assist. Calder's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Kitchener with 47 seconds left in the third period. Others who scored for Kitchener included Nathan Grossi and Jeremy Kuehn, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Austin Gaboury, Matt Scott, and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in one and Mitchell Smith and Alex Demrovsky, who contributed two each.

The Siskins' offense rang up 34 shots on Kitchener's net. Waterloo struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Dutchmen to score three power play goals on five chances.

The Siskins were helped by Christian Mroczkowski, who tallied two goals. Mroczkowski scored the first of his two goals at 12:56 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Danny Hanlon provided the assist. Mroczkowski's next tally made the score 4-3 Kitchener with 16:43 left in the third period. Hanlon assisted on the tally. Waterloo also got points from Hanlon, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Luke Gazzola also scored for Waterloo. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Nick Hirst, Evan Kearns, Brennan Blaszczak, and Matt Romund, who each chipped in one.

Jackson McIntosh rejected 30 shots on goal for Kitchener. The Dutchmen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Waterloo incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
