Ancaster uses early goal to top Pelham, 3-1

The Ancaster Avalanche took the lead against the Pelham Panthers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Ancaster took over the lead for good with a goal by Michael Pollice at 16:35 in the first period. Zach Maciel picked up the assist.

The Avalanche were led by goalie Blake Richard, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Richard will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.56.

Ancaster was led by Pollice, who racked up one goal and one assist.

The Avalanche put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pelham to score on any of its five power plays. Ancaster forced the Panthers goalie Tynan Lauziere to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Ancaster additionally got points from Maciel, who also had one goal and one assist. Spencer Leenders also scored for Ancaster. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Blake Luscombe, who had two and Ryan Knill and Brett Farrelly, who contributed one each.

Pelham's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Ancaster power plays.

The Panthers were led by Anthony Sorrentino, who scored the team's only goal. Sorrentino scored 9:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pelham. Brock Ackerman assisted on the tally.

The Avalanche incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Pelham's Lauziere stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Panthers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
