St. Catharines rolls over Fort Erie, 7-0

The Fort Erie Meteors had trouble finding ways to stop the St. Catharines Falcons, which beat Meteors, 7-0.

St. Catharines was sparked by Scott Grieve, who racked up one goal. Grieve scored 8:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. Cam Blakely picked up the assist.

The Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fort Erie to score on any of its four power plays. St. Catharines was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Falcons average 2.7 goals allowed per game. The Meteors were unable to stop St. Catharines from sending pucks towards the net, and the Falcons eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. St. Catharines bested its season scoring average. This season, the Falcons average 4.4 goals per contest. St. Catharines' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Tyler Morrison, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Tyler Jackson, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Brandon Cercone, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Catharines also had goals scored by Jake Evans and Tyler Hildebrant, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Ryan Doucette, who had two, Manny Manns, who had three, and Josh Miller and Devon Rymarchuk, who contributed one each.

Fort Erie's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 59 minutes in penalty time. The Meteors had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fort Erie did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Meteors put an average of 2.4 pucks into the net per game. Fort Erie found itself stymied offensively, and got off a mere 11 shots against the Falcons' defense.

Ben Csiernik rejected 11 shots on goal for St. Catharines. The Falcons totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-12 on the power play. St. Catharines ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blakely was ejected from the game. Mackenzie Savard recorded 26 saves for the Meteors. For Fort Erie, Josh Micallef was ejected from the game.
