Listowel hangs on, beats Cambridge 1-0

Tim Nauta gave the Listowel Cyclones the lead in the first period, and the Cambridge Winter Hawks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 1-0.

A goal 4:58 into the first period by Nauta proved to be the game winner, and powered Listowel to the victory. Derek Elliot picked up the assist.

Tyler Fassl spearheaded the defensive effort for the Cyclones, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 35 saves for the shutout. Fassl certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.07 entering the contest.

Listowel was paced by Nauta, who had one goal.

The Cyclones' defensive effort looked to be improved. Listowel averages 2.9 goals allowed per game. The Cyclones forced Cambridge goalie Owen Savory to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Winter Hawks stifled Listowel's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cambridge was held below its usual level of production. The Winter Hawks average 2.8 goals per game. The Cyclones were unable to stop Cambridge from sending pucks towards the net, and the Winter Hawks eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Listowel incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cambridge's Savory stopped 37 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Winter Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
