Grzelewski nets hat trick, leads St. Thomas to 5-1 win over St. Marys

Zach Grzelewski netted a hat trick to lead the St. Thomas Stars over the St. Marys Lincolns, 5-1.

Grzelewski's first goal came 12:35 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:29 into the first and at 15:40 into the third.

St. Marys was stymied by St. Thomas' netminder Nikolas Dampier, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Dampier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.18 entering the contest.

The Stars stifled the Lincolns' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Thomas' offense rang up 34 shots on St. Marys' net.

St. Thomas also had goals scored by Matt McJannet and Brett Van Dusen, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Dane Johnstone, who had three, Reed Horvat and Carson Brookshaw, who each chipped in one, and Blair Mincer and Spencer Hutchinson, who contributed two each.

The Lincolns were led by Ocean Check, who scored the team's only goal. Check scored 17:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. CJ Griffith picked up the assist.

The Stars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. St. Marys' Tyler Beattie stopped 29 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Lincolns incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
