Listowel boosted by Fassl's play in net, beats Brampton 5-2

The Listowel Cyclones relied on the sparkling performance of Tyler Fassl in net to grab a 5-2 win against the Brampton Bombers.

Listowel was paced by Corey Flemington, who registered one goal. Flemington scored on the power play 12:23 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Listowel. The Cyclones had gotten the advantage when Brampton's Sam Hisey was sent off for high sticking. Brad Yowart provided the assist.

Listowel kept the Bombers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Lawr made 35 saves on 40 shots. The Cyclones found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Listowel has scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Others who scored for Listowel included Derek Elliot, who had two and Caleb Warren and Ben Shelley, who scored one goal each. More assists for Listowel came via Tim Nauta and Kevin Gergley, who contributed one each and Blake Nichol and Ben VanOotegham, who each chipped in two.

Brampton forced Cyclones' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 33 shots and forcing 31 saves. Fassl made 30 stops and Ryan Hergott made one. The Bombers found themselves short handed often, totaling 42 penalty minutes and allowing 11 power plays.

Brampton was helped by Kevin Bray, who tallied one goal. Bray scored on the power play 11:31 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A hooking penalty on Nichol had put the Bombers on the power play. Lucas Goodman picked up the assist. Brampton also got points from Anton Bura, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Noah Robinson and Mitchell Byrne, who contributed one each.

The Cyclones incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Listowel ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hergott was ejected from the game. Brampton registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
