Thorold blows out Pelham, 7-1JL Grightmire Arena Fri, Dec 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Thorold Blackhawks were firing on all cylinders against the Pelham Panthers, and when the final buzzer sounded Blackhawks emerged with a 7-1 win. Francois Plamondon had two goals and one assist to lead Thorold. Plamondon scored the first of his two goals at 10:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Greg Christmas picked up the assist. Plamondon's next tally made the score 4-1 Thorold with 9:22 left in the second period. Anthony Postiglione provided the assist. The Blackhawks were led by goalie Josh Astorino, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Astorino managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.99 prior to the game. Thorold's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Blackhawks surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Thorold forced Pelham's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Tynan Lauziere made 21 stops and Daniel Kocsis made 13. The Blackhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Pelham power plays. Thorold surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Blackhawks average 2.5 goals per game. Thorold also got points from Tyler Sehovic, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Postiglione, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Thorold included Nick Giancola and Alek Panov, who each put in one. In addition, Thorold received assists from Jake Lloyd, Kyle Langdon, Nathan Dosa, Dan Abbott, and Matt Ceko, who contributed one each and Vito Scaringi and David Dagostino, who each chipped in two. The Panthers' penalty kill unit could not stop Thorold's power play, which converted on three of three opportunities. Pelham was led by Brock Ackerman, who scored the team's only goal. Ackerman scored short handed zero seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Thorold. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Francesco Gigliotti was ejected from the game. The Panthers ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Pelham, Connor Schmalz was ejected from the game.
