The St. Catharines Falcons gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Welland Jr. Canadians. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Manny Manns at 17:08 of the third period. St. Catharines was led by Manns, who had one goal and one assist. The Falcons struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Welland to score two power play goals on three chances. St. Catharines also had goals scored by Justin Felker and Tyler Hildebrant, who scored one goal each. More assists for St. Catharines came via Nicholas Dozzi, who had one and Jake Evans and Brandon Cercone, who contributed two each. The Jr. Canadians found themselves short handed often, totaling 44 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. Welland was helped by Andy Paul, who tallied one goal. Paul scored on the power play 15:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Welland. The Jr. Canadians had gained a power play chance when Ben Csiernik was whistled for delay of game. Adam Barron picked up the assist. Welland also got a goal from Jack Fitzgerald as well. In addition, Welland received assists from JC Thivierge and Gabe Ruggi, who each chipped in one. Ben Csiernik made 22 saves for St. Catharines on 24 shots. The Falcons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Chris Janzen rejected 23 shots on goal for Welland. |
