Caledonia pulls away in second, rolls over Fort Erie, 7-0

The Fort Erie Meteors was within striking distance after one period, but the Caledonia Corvairs put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-0 victory.

Caledonia got the win with help from a great game by Jake Brown, who had two goals and two assists. Brown scored the first of his two goals at 14:39 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Caledonia. Jayme Forslund picked up the assist. Brown's next tally made the score 4-0 Caledonia with 5:04 left in the second period. Todd Ratchford assisted on the tally.

The Corvairs' penalty kill excelled, as Caledonia gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:21 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Corvairs forced Meteors' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 57 shots and forcing 50 saves. Liam Conway made 28 stops and Mackenzie Savard made 22. Caledonia stifled Fort Erie's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Corvairs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Caledonia has scored at the pace of 4.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Corvairs were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time.

Caledonia also got points from Nathan Gomes, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledonia included Matthew Hore, who had two and Ryan Blunt and Tyler Lepore, who scored one goal each. More assists for Caledonia came via Ryan Moran, Connor Bramwell, Kyle Tanev, Anton Trublin, and Jacob Buch, who each chipped in one.

The Meteors racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. Fort Erie had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Meteors did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Fort Erie puts an average of 2.3 pucks into the net per game.

Brendan Polasek made 15 saves for Caledonia on 15 shots. The Corvairs registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Caledonia, Connor Patton and Austin McEneny were ejected from the contest. Team's Richard DeMarco, Jared Marino, and Wade Kenny were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
