Caledonia survives Ancaster comeback, wins 6-4

The Caledonia Corvairs came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Ancaster Avalanche, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Caledonia led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Corvairs' Austin McEneny scored on the power play at 15:00 in the first period to put Caledonia up 4-0.

The Corvairs' penalty kill excelled, as Caledonia gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:35 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

The Corvairs kept Ancaster's goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Richard made 48 saves on 54 shots. Caledonia's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Corvairs average 1.8 goal allowed per game. Caledonia was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and three majors for 31 minutes in penalty time. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Corvairs were led by Jake Brown, who tallied two goals and two assists. Brown scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:04 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Caledonia. Caledonia had taken the advantage when the Avalanche's Blake Luscombe got sent off for hooking. Anton Trublin provided the assist. Brown's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Caledonia with 5:48 left in the third period. Kyle Tanev picked up the assist. Caledonia additionally got points from Jayme Forslund, who also had one goal and one assist, Trublin, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and McEneny, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cosimo Fontana also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Connor Patton, who had two and Connor Bramwell, Nathan Gomes, and Ryan Blunt, who each chipped in one.

Ancaster was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Avalanche surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game.

Ancaster also got points from Michael Pollice, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Ben Hughes, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Lucas Triemstra, Marcus Baird, and Michael Faliero, who contributed one each.

Brendan Polasek recorded 23 saves for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Fontana and Todd Ratchford were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For Ancaster, Triemstra, Owen Burnell, and Hughes were ejected from the contest.
