Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Waterloo Siskins in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Waterloo got a shootout goal from Christian Mroczkowski. In addition to the clincher, Cambridge got a shootout goal from Maxime Lamontagne.The Winter Hawks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cambridge trailed 1-0 after a goal by the Siskins' Mroczkowski at 12:40 in the first period. The Winter Hawks tied things up at 1-1 on a power play goal by Jordan Chard at 17:17 in the first period. Cambridge was led by goalie Lucas Machalski, who finished with 38 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Machalski will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.36. The Winter Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Waterloo was unable to stop Cambridge from sending pucks towards the net, and the Winter Hawks eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Kyle Liu and Phil Caputo, who each chipped in one. The Siskins' offense operated below their season average. Waterloo averages 4.1 goals per game. The Siskins forced Cambridge goalie Machalski to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. More assists for Waterloo came via Matt Doty and Josh De Farias, who contributed one each. The Winter Hawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Evgeny Kiselev rejected 32 shots on goal for Waterloo. The Siskins incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
