Penalties doom Niagara Falls against Caledonia in 6-3 loss

A rash of penalties cost the Niagara Falls Canucks the game, as the Caledonia Corvairs netted four goals with a man advantage in a 6-3 win.

Caledonia was sparked by Jake Brown, who racked up one goal. Brown scored on the power play 16:01 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Caledonia. The Corvairs earned a power play opportunity when Austin Wright was put in the box for roughing. Riley Vanhorne provided the assist.

Caledonia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 12 chances. The Corvairs forced Niagara Falls goalie Dylan Pietrangelo to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Caledonia could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 66 minutes in penalties during the game.

Caledonia additionally got points from Vanhorne, who also registered one goal and one assist and Anton Trublin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledonia included Connor Bramwell, Connor Patton, and Mitch Purdie, who each put in one. More assists for Caledonia came via Jordan Peacock, who had two and Justin Abraham, Jayme Forslund, Brendan Polasek, Tyler Lepore, and Matthew Hore, who contributed one each.

The Canucks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 64 penalty minutes.

Niagara Falls was helped by Mac Hollowell, who had one goal. Hollowell scored 12:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Nigel Slade picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also had goals scored by Daniel Gallagher and Frank Pucci, who scored one goal each. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Matthew Thorpe, Zack Lansfield, Trevor Simonick, and Cesare Caldaroni, who each chipped in one.

Polasek recorded 20 saves for the Corvairs. The Canucks' Pietrangelo stopped 25 shots out of the 31 that he faced. For Niagara Falls, Slade was ejected from the game.
