Brantford's comeback falls short, Brampton wins 5-4Gretzky Main Rink Thu, Nov 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Bombers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Brantford 99ers, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory. Brampton led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Bombers' Austin Kozluk scored at 1:17 in the second period to put Brampton up 4-1. The Bombers were led by Noah Robinson, who registered one goal. Robinson scored 9:29 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Brampton. Jordan Crocker provided the assist. In a losing effort, Brantford was paced by Guy Polillo, who racked up two goals. Polillo scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:34 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Brampton. The 99ers earned a power play opportunity when Robert Orlando was put in the box for high sticking. Gus Ford assisted on the tally. Polillo's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 19:31 left in the third period. Zander Pryor provided the assist. Brampton forced Brantford's goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 40 shots and forcing 35 saves. Mathieu Kingsley made 16 stops and Jack Moylan made 19. The Bombers bested their season scoring average. This season, Brampton averages 2.7 goals per contest. The Bombers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Brampton finished with 26 penalty minutes. Brampton also had goals scored by Kevin Bray and Brad Bollert, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Chris Ludwinski, who had two and Connor Andersen, Cameron Cruickshank, Nick Petropoulos, and Carmine Vietri, who contributed one each. The 99ers kept the Bombers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Lawr made 40 saves on 44 shots. Brantford additionally got points from Ford, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Matthew Woods, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Brantford received assists from Nathan Ferris, who had one and Cole Cummings, who had two. Brampton registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Bombers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vietri was ejected from the game. Brantford incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the 99ers, Evan Bidenti was ejected from the game.
