Caledonia rolls over St. Catharines, 8-1

The St. Catharines Falcons had trouble finding ways to stop the Caledonia Corvairs, which beat Falcons, 8-1.

Caledonia was led by goalie Brendan Polasek, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Polasek will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.29.

The Corvairs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Caledonia has scored at the pace of 4.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Corvairs were helped by Todd Ratchford, who had one goal and two assists. Ratchford scored on the power play 11:26 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Caledonia earned a power play opportunity when Nick Halagian was put in the box for cross checking. Connor Patton picked up the assist. Caledonia additionally got points from Patton, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cosimo Fontana, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Jake Brown, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Caledonia also got a goal from Jordan Peacock as well. More assists for Caledonia came via Kyle Tanev, who had two, Nathan Gomes, who had three, and Riley Vanhorne, Justin Abraham, and Mitch Purdie, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Falcons put an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. St. Catharines could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Falcons were led by Tyler Jackson, who scored the team's only goal. Jackson scored on the power play 14:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. An interference penalty on Matthew Hore had put St. Catharines on the power play. Tyler Morrison assisted on the tally.

The Corvairs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Zach Moore made five saves before being replaced by Jonathan D`Ilario, who took the loss and made 17 saves. The Falcons registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
