Chatham beats London 3-2 after comeback scare

The London Nationals tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Chatham Maroons held on for a 3-2 victory.

Chatham made the score 3-1 on a goal by Michael Verboom at 2:28 in the third period, and London got as close as 3-2 when Tanner Ferreira scored 11:39 into the third period.

The Maroons got the win with help from a great game by Brennan Feasey, who had one goal and two assists. Feasey scored 8:22 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Steven Beenackers picked up the assist.

Chatham's offense rang up 40 shots on the Nationals' net.

Chatham also got points from Trevor Richardson, who also had one goal and one assist and Verboom, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Chatham received assists from Brayden Hopkins, who had one.

London's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Chatham power plays. The Nationals kept the Maroons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bo Bessette made 38 saves on 40 shots.

London was helped by Drew Worrad, who registered one goal and one assist. Worrad scored 6:32 into the second period to make the score 1-0 London. Ferreira provided the assist. London additionally got points from Ferreira, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for London came via Justin Murray and Derek Todosichuk, who each chipped in one.

Chatham ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alexander Morgan was ejected from the game. The Nationals' Justin Tugwell stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. London totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For the Nationals, Kyle L Robinson was ejected from the game.
