Waterloo rolls over Brantford, 7-1Waterloo Rec Complex Sun, Nov 23, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Waterloo Siskins had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Brantford 99ers. Waterloo got the win thanks to a great game by Evan Kearns, who had two goals and one assist. Kearns scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo. The Siskins had taken the advantage when Brantford's Keegan Alvestad got sent off for hooking. Danny Hanlon picked up the assist. Kearns' next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Waterloo with 2:28 left in the first period. Kyle Betts provided the assist. The 99ers fell victim to a deadly Waterloo power play, which ripped Brantford for five goals. The Siskins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the 99ers to score on any of their five power plays. Waterloo kept Brantford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 24 saves on 31 shots. The Siskins outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Waterloo averages 4.2 goals per contest. Waterloo additionally got points from Eric Cimino, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Christian Mroczkowski, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Chase Campbell, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Brennan Blaszczak also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Michael Romund and Tommy Rietema, who contributed one each. The 99ers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Brantford averages 3.2 goals per game. The 99ers were led by Matthew Woods, who scored the team's only goal. Woods scored 18:43 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Waterloo. Guy Polillo assisted on the tally. Bailey DeGasperis recorded 21 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Team's Matt Doty and Connor Bodnar were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Brantford incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
