MacAulay nets hat trick, leads Strathroy to 10-3 win over Lambton Shores

Mark MacAulay netted a hat trick to lead the Strathroy Rockets over the Lambton Shores Predators, 10-3.

MacAulay notched his first tally 4:46 into the second period. He then added goals at 13:59 into the third and at 17:32 into the third.

Strathroy led by only one goal at the end of the first period, but put the game away by scoring six goals in the second.

The Rockets pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 63 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:54 into the first period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

Strathroy forced Predators' goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 38 shots and forcing 28 saves. Anthony Hurtubise made 26 stops and Andrew Harriman-Duke made two. The Rockets excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing Lambton Shores to get one power play goal on 12 chances. Strathroy surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Rockets average 3.8 goals per contest.

Strathroy also got points from Brett Dalton, who also grabbed one goal and five assists to lead the team in points, Stuart King, who also racked up one goal and three assists, Kieran Milne, who also registered one goal and three assists, and Sam Vokes, who also had one goal and one assist. Dan Chapman also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Nick Griffin, Kurtis Sander, Andrew Martin, and Matt Knight-Bedour, who contributed one each.

The Predators' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and four majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Lambton Shores surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Predators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Strathroy was unable to stop Lambton Shores from sending pucks towards the net, and the Predators eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Lambton Shores was helped by Sean Ross, who finished with one goal. Ross scored short handed 40 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brenden Trottier assisted on the tally. Lambton Shores additionally got points from Colin Burns, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Ryan Fraser as well. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Gino Mini, who had one and Franco Sproviero, who had two.

Mat Ouellet made 29 saves for the Rockets on 32 shots. For Strathroy, Nick Whitworth, Jack Kilgour, and Jacob Rody were ejected from the contest. Team's Drew Marlatt, Brent Hammett, and Bryan Boersma were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
