Caledonia uses shootout to best Thorold, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledonia Corvairs defeated the Thorold Blackhawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Caledonia overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Corvairs was down 2-1 after a goal by Thorold's Matt Ceko at 2:57 in the third period. Caledonia tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jake Brown at 11:55 in the third period.

The Corvairs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 36 penalty minutes.

Caledonia forced the Blackhawks goalie Josh Astorino to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots.

Cosimo Fontana also scored for Caledonia. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Matthew Hore, who had one and Austin McEneny, who had two.

Thorold's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Caledonia power plays. The Blackhawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Thorold finished with 26 penalty minutes.

The Blackhawks were helped by Anthony Postiglione, who had one goal. Postiglione scored on the power play 14:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Thorold had gotten the advantage when the Corvairs' Brown was sent off for cross checking. Quinn Geddes picked up the assist. In addition, Thorold received assists from Adam Kozlowski and Nick Sacco, who each chipped in one.

Caledonia's Brendan Polasek stopped 13 shots out of the 15 that he faced. Josh Astorino made 51 saves for the Blackhawks on 53 shots. Thorold registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
