Guelph beats Listowel 3-2 after comeback scare

The Listowel Cyclones tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Guelph Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Guelph made the score 3-1 on a goal by Michael Courvoisier at 12:32 in the third period, and Listowel got as close as 3-2 when Riley Robertson scored 13:09 into the third period.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill excelled, as Guelph gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

The Hurricanes could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Guelph also got points from Mackenzie Flewelling, who also registered one goal and one assist and Patrick Kudla, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Cameron Stokes, Craig Martini, and Chad Herron, who contributed one each.

The Cyclones kept Guelph's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason DaSilva made 45 saves on 47 shots.

Listowel was helped by Tim Nauta, who grabbed one goal. Nauta scored 9:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Listowel. Ben VanOotegham assisted on the tally. In addition, Listowel received assists from Robert White, Derek Elliot, and Kevin Gergley, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Guelph ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sheehan Kirkwood was ejected from the game. The Cyclones' Ryan Hergott stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Listowel incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
