Sarnia beats Strathroy 5-4 after comeback scare

The Strathroy Rockets tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Sarnia Legionnaires would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Sarnia made the score 5-1 on a goal by Brad Campbell at 11:16 in the second period, and Strathroy got as close as 5-4 when Nick Griffin scored 14:10 into the third period.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Legionnaires were helped by Kyler Keating, who registered one goal. Keating scored 15:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Sarnia. Davis Boyer picked up the assist. Sarnia also got points from Ryan Vendramin, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brandon Layman, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cody Trowell also scored for Sarnia. More assists for Sarnia came via Riley Babkirk, who had two and Tyler Longo, Sam McCormack, Hayden Allen, and PJ Vandervaart, who contributed one each.

The Rockets were led by Dan Chapman, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Chapman scored 4:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Griffin provided the assist. Strathroy additionally got points from Griffin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Strathroy included Stuart King and Eddie Schulz, who scored one goal each. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Jack Kilgour, Matt Laberge, Brett Dalton, and Kurtis Sander, who each chipped in one.

Hunter Johnson recorded 23 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mat Ouellet took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Dane Gubbels who made 13 saves. Strathroy incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
