Huge game by Luscombe boosts Ancaster over Thorold, 5-2

Behind a great game by Blake Luscombe, who had two goals and one assist, the Ancaster Avalanche defeated the Thorold Blackhawks, 5-2.

Luscombe scored on the power play at 19:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster and again while 18:09 into the third to make the score 5-2 Ancaster.

Ancaster pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Avalanche kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 34 saves on 39 shots. Ancaster was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 12 chances.

Ancaster additionally got points from Ben Hughes, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ancaster also had goals scored by Cooper Richards and Hayden Guitard, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Michael Pollice, who had three and Michael Faliero and Ryan Cox, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks forced the Avalanche goalie Blake Richard to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Thorold was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

The Blackhawks were led by Alek Panov, who had one goal. Panov scored on the power play 12:20 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Ancaster. Thorold had gotten the advantage when Ancaster's Ryan Sullivan was sent off for hooking. Kyle Langdon assisted on the tally. Nathan Dosa also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Tyler Sehovic, who had one.

The Avalanche's Richard stopped 39 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Blackhawks registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Thorold ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sehovic was ejected from the game.
