Cambridge squeaks by Guelph, 3-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks and the Guelph Hurricanes were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cambridge made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

The Winter Hawks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Zack Hedley 6:19 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Cambridge was led by Hedley, who racked up one goal.

The Winter Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Guelph to score on any of its three power plays.

Cambridge also got points from Jake Moggy, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Maxime Lamontagne also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Zack Magwood, Jordan Chard, Devin Shell, Alex Bottigoni, and Phil Caputo, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' offense rang up 45 shots on Cambridge's net.

Guelph was helped by Craig Martini, who finished with one goal. Martini scored 3:04 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Peyton Backus provided the assist. Guelph also got a goal from Alex Remedios as well. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Patrick Kudla, Giordano Finoro, and Jordan Hatzinger, who contributed one each.

Lucas Machalski rejected 43 shots on goal for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Winter Hawks, Mitch Atkins and Caputo were ejected from the contest. Jason DaSilva made 21 saves for the Hurricanes on 24 shots. Guelph incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
